Abstract: Psychological well-being is shaped not only by individual cognition, emotion, and behavior but also by the social environments in which people live. In India, family relationships, social hierarchies, gender roles, educational expectations, economic status, and cultural norms influence how individuals understand themselves, regulate behavior, and respond to psychological distress. These social structures provide belonging, security, identity, and practical support, but may also create pressure to conform, inhibit self-expression, and complicate psychological recognition.
