Abstract- History of India’s struggle for independence is incomplete without acknowledging the invaluable contributions of women. Their sacrifices occupy a place of utmost significance, as they fought with unwavering determination and courage, enduring immense hardships, exploitation, and torture to secure the nation’s freedom. Many women, renowned for their exceptional bravery and intelligence, stood shoulder to shoulder with men in the fight for independence. When male freedom fighters were imprisoned, women stepped forward to lead the movement, showcasing their extraordinary commitment to the cause. The role of women in India’s freedom struggle and national awakening is both remarkable and inspiring. These women not only sacrificed their lives but also actively confronted various social and political challenges. The lesser-known and often overlooked aspects of their contributions highlight their pivotal role in achieving an independent India. While much emphasis is placed on male freedom fighters, it is evident that without the efforts of women, the dream of independence would have been unattainable. From being oppressed as second-class citizens, enduring domestic violence, and battling systemic inequalities like the lack of education and oppressive practices such as sati, Indian women rose to become influential leaders in the freedom struggle. They played an active role in the Non-Cooperation Movement, practiced Satyagraha, promoted Khadi, and picketed liquor shops. Icons like Usha Mehta, Rajkumari Gupta, Aruna Asaf Ali, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, Azizam Bai, Gulab Kaur, Rani Gaidinliu, Amal Prabha Das, and Sarojini Naidu made profound contributions to liberating India from British rule. Their participation is not only significant but also commands immense respect and admiration.
