Abstract: The idea of a united and harmonious humanity has long been embedded in the philosophical traditions of India. The concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning “the world is one family,” reflects a universal vision of coexistence, compassion, and collective well-being. The philosophical thought of Sri Aurobindo offers a profound framework for understanding and realizing this ideal in the modern world. His philosophy emphasizes the spiritual evolution of humanity and the development of a higher consciousness capable of transcending divisions of nation, race, and culture (Aurobindo, 1972). This paper examines the philosophical relationship between Sri Aurobindo’s ideas and the ancient Indian ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Sri Aurobindo’s concept of human unity extends beyond political or institutional arrangements and is rooted in the spiritual transformation of human consciousness. According to his philosophy, genuine global harmony emerges when individuals recognize the inner unity of humanity and develop values of cooperation, compassion, and collective responsibility (Chaudhuri, 1974). The study adopts a qualitative and philosophical methodology based on textual analysis of Sri Aurobindo’s major works and relevant scholarly literature. The paper also discusses the contemporary relevance of these ideas in addressing global challenges such as cultural fragmentation, social inequality, and international conflict. The findings suggest that Sri Aurobindo’s vision of spiritual evolution provides a meaningful philosophical foundation for realizing the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. His emphasis on inner transformation, unity in diversity, and collective progress offers valuable insights for building a more peaceful and interconnected global society.
