Abstract: Child safety is a concern in apartments and gated communities, where children may move between homes, play areas, parking spaces, and common facilities without continuous supervision. Conventional methods such as direct parental supervision, security guards, and CCTV monitoring can provide support, but they may not offer continuous location awareness or immediate alerts when a child moves outside a permitted area. This paper proposes a Smart Child Monitoring System that combines Internet of Things technology, GPS-based tracking, geofencing, emergency alerts, and wearable-status monitoring to provide an additional layer of safety for children. The proposed system uses a wearable device to obtain the child’s location and transmit information to a monitoring application. Parents or authorized security personnel can view the child’s location and receive alerts when the child enters a predefined danger zone or moves beyond a safe boundary. An emergency button on the wearable allows the child to generate an alert when assistance is required. The system also monitors the operational status of the wearable and communicates events to authorized users. The proposed architecture consists of a wearable layer, communication layer, monitoring and processing layer, geofencing module, notification system, and user application. The system is intended to reduce dependence on manual supervision and support faster awareness of unsafe situations. However, GPS accuracy, network availability, battery life, indoor positioning, and data privacy remain challenges. Future improvements can include better indoor positioning, energy-efficient hardware, secure communication, and intelligent event detection. The system provides a framework for community child safety and monitoring.
